    Testing the Crayon Syntax Highlighter

So I heard about this syntax highlighter plugin called Crayon Syntax Highlighter. I switched to  wp e-commerce for  a test shop as woocommerce managed to break the theme I planned to use. There were a few things I did not like about it so that made it easier to switch. Wp -commerce has a few quirks too but so far so good. The biggest problem I am running... Read more »

Have been looking into the woocommerce plugin for an e-shop, this is one of the shop plugins and I only had a quick look around for other plugins.  Woocommerce is a bit of a new kid on the block and it comes from a company that does a lot of commercial things with WordPress, as a result... CSS3 Menu’s in the Twitter Bootstrap Theme

Playing around with Custom Menu’s and a special element walker for the menu to create CSS3 menus. CSS came from  here and here (codrops is a good site worth following). I use a plugin that sets default preferred images for categories but I have not found a method yet to access that particular image. There are some limitations, the menu cannot consist... Read more »

Finetuning your site for mobile users

I am playing around with a responsive theme based on Bootstrap, it is still a bit rough around the edges and there are a few variations around. Getting BackWpUp to run by making a small change to wp-config.php

Sometimes the backwpup plugin cannot run: add to wp-config.php. the cron is not always an issue. #define('ALTERNATE_WP_CRON', true); define('WP_TEMP_DIR', ABSPATH . 'wp-content/tmp'); Also add the directory and make it writable for the server. This works sometimes, I have now two sites on the same server, one can run it, the other does not.

What not to like about plugins

Some plugins insist on setting their own styles, this is very annoying when it clashes with the theme you use. Needed to hack the related posts plugin to remove font settings (all window fonts too).

Using a related post plugin and a plugin that sets a featured image depending on the category.

Added 2 plugins: a plugin to show related posts with a thumbnail: IGIT Related Post With Thumb and a plugin that adds default thumbnails to categories: FPW Category Thumbnails. They seem to work well, I only have to fix the theme I am using (Sight 1.0 by WPSHOWER)  to display the images I use.
